The Rt Hon Gavin Williamson CBE was appointed Secretary of State for Education on 24 July 2019.

He also said in his message that, ‘over the last few days I have heard extraordinary examples of school leaders and teachers responding with flexibility, pragmatism and creativity- demonstrating true civic spirit in unparalleled circumstances.’
Rt Hon Gavin Williamson, the Secretary of State for Education has sent a letter to all teachers expressing ‘deepest gratitude for the absolutely vital service that you are providing for our children, young people and communitites.’
Commenting on the appointment of Gavin Williamson as the Secretary of State for Education, Neil Leitch, chief executive of the Early Years Alliance said:
“We look forward to working with Gavin Williamson in his new role, and sincerely hope that with his own comprehensive education and background in business, he will recognise the importance of quality, affordable early years education and childcare for social mobility and for helping parents to work.
- Outlining our commitment to feeding children and especially the most vulnerable has always been our priority and it is vital that children continue to be fed, which is why we welcome the Government leading on this.
- Pressing upon them the impact school closures will have on the school food sector, which employs 100,000 people directly, and a further 20,000 in the supply chain, and seeking assurances that their jobs will be protected.
